Ellen is the co-founder
and co-director of the Seattle Women's Jazz Orchestra.
She is leader of the Ellen Finn Jazz Trio, as well as Steel
Drum Journey, a Caribbean band. She also plays bass in several
big bands in Seattle including Kings
of Swing. She has recently joined Lexington
Avenue, a dynamic vocal group with a rhythm section. In April, 2003, Ellen performed on bass and as co-leader of the
Seattle Women's Jazz Orchestra (swojo) at the invitation-only
Lima Jazz festival, in Lima, Peru. She has performed for former
Vice President Al Gore, Senator John Kerry, Washington Senators
Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell, Governor Gary Locke, Seattle
Mayors Schell, Royer and Rice. She's also played for Art Linkletter
and Paul Newman. She has performed as bass accompanist for
Cornish College of the Arts ensemble classes, Katie King
vocal workshops, Andrienne Wilson vocal workshops, and for classes
in the Seattle Central Community College jazz curriculum.
She has performed at Benaroya Hall (Seattle, WA), Broadway Performance
Hall (Seattle, WA), and Kilbourne Hall (Rochester, NY). She
is the recipient of scholarships to the Port Townsend jazz and
big band workshops and has been invited to perform with the Japan
Sister City Tour in 2008. As a free-lance bassist, Ellen has performed in the following
Seattle-area musicals (1996-2006): "Jesus Christ Superstar," "Godspell," "West
Side Story," "Holiday Big Broadcast," "Matter," and "Blue
Nocturne." In addition to her regular gigs, she performs
as bassist with many other local big bands and groups, including:
the David Mesler Trio, Sabbatical V Gospel Band, MsBehavin', the Prohibition
Dixieland Band, and the Seattle Central Big Band. Ellen is a member of the Seattle Musician's Association and
the Seattle Composer's Alliance.
